Charles Ives’ timeless “The Unanswered Question” opens the evening, followed by Luigi Boccherini’s evocative stroll through the streets of 18th-century Madrid. The Mozart, featuring brilliant soloist Orion Weiss, and the Mendelssohn, with its groovy Saltarello finale, round out this celebration of the ostinato—the persistent, repeating musical phrase upon which musicians have improvised for centuries.
