Alexa Schmitz

Violin

Paul and Meredyth Jones Memorial Chair

Alexa Schmitz began playing the violin when she was just three years old. She received her B.M. from Oberlin Conservatory where she studied with Marilyn McDonald. She has performed as a soloist with several orchestras, including the Delaware County Symphony in Pennsylvania, Mansfield Symphony in Ohio, and the Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil de las Américas in Puerto Rico. In addition to the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, she has played with the Boston Philharmonic, Phoenix Symphony, Binghamton Philharmonic, the Orquesta Nacional de Panamá, and as concertmaster for the Mansfield Symphony. Ms. Schmitz attributes her passion for chamber music to her summers spent at Greenwood Music Camp in western MA.  In 2003 her string quartet won the opportunity to perform an educational tour in Washington D.C., including a final concert at the Smithsonian Institute on Stradivarius instruments. Ms. Schmitz is also a plant biologist and science writer.
